Come by for FREE Antifreeze Check
During the cold months, it is important that the fluid in your radiator is CLEAN, FULL, and BALANCED.
By CLEAN, we mean the engine coolant lacks contamination and is the proper fluid for your car. Muddy brown coolant is a sign that it's time to be serviced. Some older vehicles use green Antifreeze; some newer vehicles use orange Dexcool, and many new cars have proprietary coolant fluids. Each vehicle has a specific requirement for coolant. There is no universal rule. Usually the radiator is labeled what your requirements are.
Putting the wrong fluid in your radiator or overflow bottle can cause major problems. If this happens, it must be addressed as soon as possible to prevent permanent damage.
By FULL, there should be fluid in your overflow bottle as well as the radiator.
By BALANCED, the ratio of coolant to filtered water (Never use tap water in a radiator) should be 50/50. We use test strips, like you would find in a chemistry lab to check the balance and effectiveness of the coolant.
Most manufacturers recommend that the coolant be flushed every 30,000 miles or two years.
Come by our shop and we will tell you if your coolant is CLEAN, FULL, and BALANCED and what to do in case it's not.
